Abstract

Electrocaloric (EC) properties were investigated in sol.gel derived (Bi1/2Na1/2)0.91Ba0.09TiO3 (BNBT) ceramics. The Electro caloric effect (ECE) in the fabricated material was measured by indirect method using Maxwell’s thermodynamic relation [(∂P/∂T)E=(∂S/∂E)T]. The bulk sample is calcined at 800 oC and sintered at 1100 oC in air. The phase analysis and micro structural study revealed the formation of single phase and dense ceramics. The temperature driven phase transitions were investigated via dielectric and thermo-mechanical techniques. The abnormal negative electrocaloric effects were observed at different temperatures in the composition. The maximum ECE was observed near ferroelectric (FE) to antiferroelectric (AFE) phase transition temperature.
