Occupational Stress of Teachers’ with Special Reference to Workplace Performance in District Peshawar

Abstract

This research study investigated occupational stress among teachers and their impact on their workplace performance at the primary level. The current study was quantitative in nature. The objectives of the study were: to examine the effect of occupational stress among teachers on their workplace performance and to identify the administrative factors which increase the stress level of teachers. There were total 06 private primary schools in University Town. All private primary schools of University Town, Peshawar constituted the population of the study. From each school 10 teachers were selected randomly, so 60 teachers constituted the sample size of the study. A Closed-ended questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. The data was collected personally by visiting these schools. All the collected data were entered in the SPSS version, regression and chi-square was used. It was found that the majority of the teachers agreed that occupational stress existed and it also affected their job performance. The major factors which increase stress level among teachers were heavy workload, the strength of classrooms, attitude of heads, no job security and low salary. The study recommended that teachers may be given the security of their jobs so that it would not affect their physical and mental health.
