Abstract

The relationship of the US and Pakistan took a turning point with the attacks of September 11, 2001 after cold ties during 1990s. The alliance made between them was the mixture of cooperation, dependence, strategic divergences and mistrust. This research aims to critically analyze how the security, economy and foreign policy of Pakistan affected after its involvement in the Global War on Terror (GWOT). This research demonstrates that although Pakistan gained considerable economic assistance from the US and Pakistan’s international reputation improved but it also faced security threats, economic instability, and widespread internal displacement. The economic assistance could not boost sustainable economic growth of Pakistan and dependency increased as terrorism disrupted investment and trade badly. Pakistan also suffered huge number of military and civil causalities and collateral damage due to military operations and drone strikes, undermining public trust and raising national sovereignty concerns. Diplomatically, the strategic partnership of both countries shifted to transactional engagement, further complicated by Pakistan closer ties with China and Washington’s alignment with India. The study adopts qualitative research methodology by using secondary data sources like books, research articles, newspapers and related websites. It looks into specific research question what the major implications of Pakistan’s post 9/11 alliance with the United States by are analyzing the economic, security and foreign policy implications for Pakistan as a result of its participation in the GWOT and argues that Pakistan faced extensive challenges while fulfilling international commitments towards counterterrorism within emerging multipolar global order.
