Repository (Self-Archiving) Policy
Purpose and Scope
The Journal of Managerial Sciences (JMS) supports the responsible dissemination, accessibility, discoverability, and long-term scholarly use of published research. In keeping with its open-access publishing model, the journal permits authors to deposit versions of their scholarly work in institutional, subject-specific, multidisciplinary, and other legitimate repositories, subject to the terms of this policy and the applicable copyright and licensing conditions.
This policy establishes the conditions under which authors may deposit preprints, accepted manuscripts, and published versions of their articles. It aims to promote open scholarly communication, facilitate responsible research sharing, improve the visibility and accessibility of scholarly outputs, and maintain the integrity of the published academic record.
The policy applies to authors of articles published in JMS and, where relevant, to authors depositing manuscripts associated with submissions to the journal.
General Policy Statement
JMS permits and encourages author self-archiving without an embargo period, subject to the conditions specified below.
Authors may deposit eligible versions of their work in repositories of their choice, including institutional repositories, subject repositories, general-purpose research repositories, and repositories maintained by universities or recognized scholarly organizations.
Self-archiving is permitted without requiring separate permission from the journal for each deposit, provided that the author complies with the applicable copyright and licensing terms, version-specific requirements, attribution requirements, and any relevant legal, ethical, or confidentiality obligations.
The journal's self-archiving policy does not replace or override the license attached to an individual article. Where the article's applicable license grants broader rights, those rights remain governed by that license. Where a restriction applies, the relevant copyright and licensing terms shall prevail.
Versions Permitted for Deposit
JMS recognizes the following versions of a scholarly article.
Submitted Manuscript (Preprint)
A preprint is the author's manuscript before formal peer review by JMS.
Authors may deposit their preprints in appropriate repositories before submission to JMS or while the manuscript is under consideration, provided that:
- The manuscript is identified accurately as a preprint or unreviewed version, where applicable.
- The deposit does not misrepresent the manuscript as accepted or published by JMS.
- Authors disclose prior dissemination where required by the journal's submission instructions.
- Any subsequent publication in JMS is appropriately linked to the preprint record, where practicable.
Posting a preprint does not constitute acceptance or imply that the manuscript will be accepted for publication.
Accepted Manuscript (Author Accepted Manuscript — AAM)
An Author Accepted Manuscript is the version incorporating the changes required by peer review and formally accepted for publication, but not yet formatted into the journal's final published layout.
Authors may deposit the accepted manuscript in an institutional, subject, or other suitable repository without an embargo, subject to the applicable copyright and licensing terms.
The deposited manuscript should clearly indicate that it is the accepted version and should, once publication details are available, include a link to the final published article.
Authors must not represent an accepted manuscript as the final published version if it has not been typeset and published by the journal.
Published Article (Version of Record — VoR)
The Version of Record is the final article published by JMS, including its definitive bibliographic information, journal formatting, and Digital Object Identifier (DOI), where assigned.
Authors may deposit the published version in institutional, subject-specific, multidisciplinary, or other suitable repositories without an embargo, subject to the article's applicable open-access license and the requirements of this policy.
Where the article is published under a Creative Commons license, the deposited copy must retain the relevant copyright, licensing, and attribution information. Reuse and redistribution must comply with the specific terms of that license.
Permitted Repositories
Authors may deposit eligible article versions in:
- Institutional repositories maintained by universities or research institutions.
- Subject-specific repositories relevant to the article's discipline.
- Multidisciplinary research repositories.
- Recognized repositories operated by scholarly organizations, research funders, or public research infrastructures.
- Other legitimate repositories that provide appropriate attribution, stable access, and responsible management of scholarly content.
Authors are encouraged to select repositories that provide persistent identifiers, stable URLs, appropriate metadata, and reliable long-term access.
Depositing a manuscript in a repository does not transfer copyright to that repository. Authors should review repository terms to ensure that the conditions of deposit do not conflict with the article's applicable license or the rights held by other parties.
Embargo Period
JMS does not impose an embargo period on self-archiving of eligible article versions.
Authors may make permitted versions available immediately upon deposit, subject to the applicable copyright, licensing, ethical, and legal requirements.
The absence of a journal-imposed embargo does not authorize authors to disregard third-party copyright, confidentiality restrictions, contractual obligations, or the terms of an applicable license.
Attribution and Citation Requirements
To preserve the integrity and traceability of the scholarly record, authors depositing accepted manuscripts or published articles should provide complete bibliographic information as soon as it becomes available.
The repository record should include, where applicable:
- Article title.
- Names of all authors.
- Journal title: Journal of Managerial Sciences.
- Year of publication.
- Volume, issue, and page numbers or article number, where applicable.
- Digital Object Identifier (DOI), where assigned.
- A persistent link to the official JMS article page.
- The applicable copyright and licensing statement.
For accepted manuscripts and published articles, the repository record should include the following statement, adapted to the version deposited:
“This work is associated with the Journal of Managerial Sciences (JMS), published by Qurtuba University of Science & Information Technology, Pakistan. Please consult the official journal record for the final publication details and applicable licensing terms.”
Where a DOI is available, authors should provide the DOI in its resolvable URL form.
Authors should update repository records, where practicable, to link to the final published article once it becomes available.
Copyright and Licensing
Authors and repository operators must respect the copyright and licensing terms applicable to each deposited version.
The journal's published licensing information governs the reuse of the Version of Record. Authors should retain or reproduce the relevant license information when depositing the published article.
Where an article is published under a Creative Commons license, the license terms determine the permissions and conditions for sharing, redistribution, adaptation, and other reuse.
Repository deposit must not remove or obscure copyright notices, licensing information, author attribution, or publication details.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that third-party material included in their manuscripts, such as figures, tables, images, or other copyrighted content, is deposited only to the extent permitted by the relevant rights and permissions.
Research Integrity and Ethical Responsibilities
Self-archiving must not compromise research integrity, publication ethics, participant privacy, or legal obligations.
Authors must ensure that repository deposits:
- Do not disclose confidential information or identifiable participant information without appropriate authorization.
- Respect applicable research ethics approvals, informed-consent conditions, and data-protection requirements.
- Do not misrepresent the publication status, peer-review status, or findings of the work.
- Do not introduce changes that materially alter the published Version of Record while presenting it as the original published article.
- Do not violate third-party intellectual property rights or contractual restrictions.
Where a published article is corrected, retracted, or otherwise subject to a formal post-publication notice, authors should update repository records where practicable and link to the journal's official notice. The journal's official record remains authoritative regarding the publication's status.
Relationship with Research Data and Supplementary Materials
This policy concerns the deposit of article manuscripts and published articles. It does not replace the journal's separate Data Availability and Data Sharing Policy.
Authors are encouraged to deposit eligible supporting research data, instruments, code, appendices, and supplementary materials in appropriate repositories where lawful and ethically permissible.
Where supporting materials are deposited separately, authors should provide the relevant repository link or persistent identifier in the article or its Data Availability Statement, as appropriate.
Sensitive, confidential, proprietary, or restricted data must be handled in accordance with the journal's data-sharing requirements and applicable ethical and legal obligations.
Responsibilities
Authors
Authors are responsible for selecting an appropriate repository, depositing the correct manuscript version, complying with licensing and attribution requirements, and maintaining accurate repository records where practicable.
Editorial Office
The Editorial Office is responsible for maintaining this policy on the journal website, communicating relevant requirements to authors, and coordinating policy updates.
Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief oversees the implementation and interpretation of this policy and ensures consistency with the journal's open-access, copyright, licensing, publication ethics, and research-integrity policies.
Repository Operators
Repository operators are expected to maintain accurate metadata, preserve attribution and licensing information, and provide stable access to deposited materials in accordance with their own repository policies.
Compliance and Policy Interpretation
JMS encourages responsible self-archiving and will address questions about manuscript versions, attribution, licensing, and repository deposit through the Editorial Office.
Where a deposit appears inconsistent with the applicable license, copyright requirements, or this policy, the journal may contact the author to request clarification or appropriate correction of the repository record.
Any concerns shall be addressed in a manner consistent with the journal's publication ethics and research-integrity policies. This policy does not restrict rights that authors or other rights holders possess under an applicable open license or law.
Policy Review and Approval
This policy shall be reviewed periodically by the Editorial Office and may be revised to reflect developments in open-access publishing, repository practices, copyright and licensing requirements, and recognized scholarly publishing standards.
Any material revision shall be approved through the journal's established editorial governance process and published on the journal website.
